dancEnlight Presents “Lines Beyond Form”
Lorelei Chang (Chang Li),中西舞 (Chang Yi) Performer
March 28 – 29 2015
Herbert Gilman Theater, Mandell JCC 335 Bloomfield Avenue West Hartford, CT 06117 Artistic Director and Choreographer: Lorelei Chang Guest Choreographer and Performer: Mai Nakanishi Costume designer: Chiaki Kato Lighting Designer: Karl Messerschmidt Our world is in many ways defined by lines, both real and abstract. The newest work by international artists and twins Lorelei Chang and Mai Nakanishi is a creative exploration of lines inspired, in part, by Paul Klee’s whimsical definition “A line is a dot that went for a walk”. Unlike many of Mondrian’s stark line paintings, dancEnlight uses lines as a springboard for invention, pushing the limits of movement in ways that will fascinate and delight viewers. Threads, a labyrinth, boundaries, lines of thought…all lend themselves to myriad interpretations and compelling possibilities.
Guest performer Mai Nakanishi will bring her compelling choreography and share her boundless talent with us. Japanese fashion designer Chiaki Kato has designed costumes for one of our many newly created dances. Lighting design will be done by Karl Messerschmidt, and prop design by Derrick Mantie.
